Temple Allen's new CE-certifed Wing-Top Sander system (pat. pend.) operates much like a powered foor buffer, per- mitting workers to stand erect rather than work on hands and knees. The lightweight equipment is reportedly easily carried up scaffolding to wing surfaces. The system operates pneumatically (a requirement in most aircraft production settings) and incorporates robust, dual-inline orbital sand- ing heads, a vibration-absorbing boom and an optional fuid delivery system. Like Temple Allen's recently introduced EMMA robotic sanding systems (see end note), the wingtop sanders accommodate a range of sanding pad sizes and or- bital speeds as well as an integrated dust-collection system. A second solution, for surface preparation of rotorcraft blades, is a modifed version of its EMMA system for fxed- wing aircraft and wind blade operations.
